Give local customers a useful next step
The Slough Directory offers a free listing for local businesses, services and community organisations. A useful profile explains what you do, where you are based and how people can get in touch. It gives customers another route to your business alongside your own website and other profiles you maintain.
Keep your base separate from the places you serve. A Langley electrician may work across Slough and nearby villages, while a High Street retailer needs visitors to find its particular entrance. Choose the accurate area and explain mobile, appointment, collection or delivery arrangements where they matter.
Describe the work you actually take on
Specific services help customers recognise whether you are the right fit. A roofer might explain repairs, flat roofing and guttering; a garage might cover MOTs, diagnostics and servicing. Use the category and service tags that match your real work, and write a description that answers the questions a first-time customer would ask.
Add a current phone number, website and a complete logo or a useful photo of your own business. Keep the same trading name and contact details consistent across your website and listings, and update your profile when your premises or services change. Avoid broad claims that make it harder to understand what you actually offer.
Make your wider catchment clear
Slough postal addresses can include places outside the borough. If you are based in Taplow, Farnham Royal or Stoke Poges, retain that location and explain your Slough coverage. Customers should be able to distinguish a nearby service provider from premises in the town centre.
An accurate service area can be especially useful for trades, cleaning, delivery and pet care. Do not imply that you have branches or walk-in facilities in every neighbourhood you serve. Clear expectations help customers make a suitable enquiry and reduce avoidable back-and-forth.
Connect with the local business community
Slough BID provides information and activity for its town-centre area. The borough council also has business information, but an organisation’s remit and eligibility may differ from the area you serve. Check what is relevant to your own premises and type of business before applying or joining.
A directory profile can help people discover and understand your business, but it does not promise a search-engine position or a particular number of enquiries. Keep control of the accounts you manage, use current details and focus on making it easy for customers to take the next step.
